The Cartwrights' old foreman Will Reagan has received word that his son, Carl, has inexplicably died in Mexico. Adam, true to form, is ready to go the thousand miles to help his friend discover details of his son's fate.
Upon arrival in the small Mexican town, as soon as Adam mentions his association with Carl Reagan, he is rendered persona non grata. The hotelkeeper, Beulah, demands payment in advance and lets him know that her hospitality is for one night only and the town sheriff (El Jefe) informs him that he'll be staying in town at his own risk
