l guess you can say the day started out just fine, me and Hoss we took the filly l been gentling for Evan Thorpe over to his place, course Hoss and little Michael had to have some fun, hand wrasstling course Hoss always lets the kid beat him, he used to do the same to me...truth is he still does 
So l just kinda stand and watch for a while till Mikey brings Hoss to his knees, l tell Hoss he should watch out the kid's got a grip like a grizzly
Michael tells us his Pa is in the barn with Lijah, the Indian that works for his Pa, so l does my stint with the kid and gives him a piggy-back, boy am l weakening or what, the kid's getting heavy, l tell him so, but then he asks me what's a smaritan, l reckons as like he'd heard the name at Sunday School, but he says no, that his Pa said us Cartwright's are 'good smaritan's', that makes me smile, an l tells him we're only doing what any neighbour would do...then it all goes wrong...bad...very bad...worse than very bad!!!
