I just read that Hoss Cartwright was actually named Eric Haas Cartwright, "Haas" being a Swedish name that sort of morphed into the nickname "Hoss." Please. I do know that's not true--I've seen the two Inger-eps, and I know Uncle Gunnar was called Hoss by a tipsy pal who told him it meant something like "Big Friendly Guy." And I know little Adam reminded his Pa that Uncle Gunnar had asked them to name the baby Hoss, after him.
However, I also know Bonanza had its inconsistencies. Can anyone tell me: is there any foundation whatsoever for the "Haas" theory? Or (as I suspect) not?
