Title: Chapter 1 Reviewer: Sierras Signed

A poignant and mezmerizing story.  I will admit there is one thing I don't agree with concerning "The Crucible".  Still this a very powerful story.

Author's Response:

Thank you, Sierras! Don't worry about not agreeing; I don't really have any set ideas on exactly what went on behind the scenes in The Crucible. The story of that ep could be written a hundred different ways, precisely because we as an audience weren't privy to all the things Kane did to Adam to drive him over the edge. My biggest problem with that episode--and the main reason I decided to explore it via fan fiction--was that I couldn't see why always-cool Adam was set so off kilter by Kane. I mean, the being forced to eat with his hands things certainly wasn't enough to do that, and it bothers me that fans with modern-day mindsets often focus on that.  Let's face it--Adam, as a 19th century cowboy, had eaten with his fingers hundreds of times. It would not bother him to do it, because he had done it often. Granted, simply being held prisoner and forced to labor in a hot mine was bad enough--but this is Adam we are talking about. I could see Joe going nuts in this situation, but not Adam. There had to be more. Granted, the "more" did NOT necessarily have to be what I alluded to in this story. That was just one possibility among many, any of which have credibility. I'm glad you enjoyed reading this version of what happened. :)

Title: Chapter 1 Reviewer: Tahoe Lee Signed

Wow!!  This is an amazing story that takes you on a journey with Adam.  This is a perfect example of a writer not only willing---but daring to go deep and finding gold.  You really dive into Adam's soul.  This is intense, rich and dense with emotion.

What a gem!!

Author's Response:

Thanks so much, Tahoe Lee! I'm so happy that you enjoyed this story. It is so different from my usual stories--well, not just different, but sometimes so dark, grim, and difficult to read that I almost backed out of writing it at all. Several times, as a matter of fact. Had a couple of writer buddies who kept prodding me to do it, so I finally squeezed my eyes shut and took the leap. I'm still not entirely sure that I should've have done it, lol. Reactions from readers at various sites are extremely intense; either I receive glowing praise for it or withering criticism. What I can say for sure is that it seems to evoke very strong feelings in people, whether good or bad. ;)  I breathe a sigh of relief every time I hear a positive response from someone like you, so thank you very much for taking the time to send a review. It is appreciated more than you know.

I read and reviewed this on another site but decided to review here as well. This was very well written but Joe went through so much anguish and pain it sometimes brought me to tears. Near the end we learn of Adam's choise. The ending was a surprise but extremely well done. This is a story I'm sure to read many times again and again as I do with many of your stories.

Author's Response:

When I hear that someone reads my stories multiple times, it really sweetens my day.  So pleased that this story hit the spot for you, Daisy. (Now I'm wondering which username you reviewed under on whichever site that was! ;) ) I know, what happened to Joe was pretty traumatic--I've even had several Adam fans tell me their hearts ached for him for what he went through.  It was my hope that for Adam to be willing to take Joe's pain onto himself, the love and bonds between the brothers would really shine forth.  There is little they would not do for one another, after all.  Thank you so much for reviewing--with a story like this, a writer is always a bit nervous about where she stands!  I so much appreciate you taking the time to let me know your thoughts.

A mesmerizing tale and Ross as a guide was inspired.  The pain of each was real and the love for each other came through.

Author's Response:
