Your ability to blend history and fiction so seamlessly makes for a powerful story. I love the picture of Joe being to Andrew what Adam had always been, and continued to be, to Joe....brothers going the distance for one another. The Civil War backdrop made it only more poignant. Those letters home, from both Joe and Adam, expressed so much, so well.

Thank you for another example of your art.

Thanks Krys, not just for this wonderful story but for jogging my memory.  l have just finished reading your WIP 'World Turned Upside Down'...l will go back to it an leave a review, but l just had to finish this first.

On reading the comments left re the WIP, you mentioned this story.  l had started reading this a while back but wasn't able to finish it. l was most annoyed when l couldn't recall the writer or the title...I had to leave it at a cliff edge moment.

l was praying that neither LJ, nor Adam would enlist, l am so glad you kept them out of it.

You have again woven a wonderful tale, so readable and realistic.  l totally agree with the other reviewers regarding the historical content.

You had me so totally involved, l was living every moment.  l loved how LJ was doing the elder brother responsibility with Andrew that his own brothers feel for him. An then Adam coming to bring him home.  Equally you had me worrying about Pa and Hoss.

BTW, you had Kyle spot on as Cameron Mitchell portrayed him...even though always been fond of CM, you had me loathing him.

l can't say anything other than 'a work of excellence'.

Author's Response:

Thank you so very much for this so very complimentary review on this story, ansinico.  I really am touched by such kind and appreciative words because this story means a lot to me as it nearly was the story that never got posted. I sent it to my beta reader and her comments were pretty scathing about it, for some reason she didn't really read it just skimmed through and rubbished it (one reason I deleted  the James bros  mention in it was because she said it was laughable) so I totally wiped it out from my files.  However the reader who gave me the info about the attack on the town by Quantrill is actually a descendent of Jesse James and she was the one who told me they rode with Quantrill on the raid so I had researched to make sure it was accurate.  She then wrote to ask why hadnt I posted the story so I told her my beta reader said it was a load of rubbish, and I didnt have it anyway ...but she did and insisted I post it...  hence the story, although without Jesse and Frank ...  so, beta readers do not know everything, as a writer there are times you just have to follow your instincts and everytime I get a lovely review for this story I want to cheer !   And thank you for adding that about Kyle's characterisation a la Cameron Mitchell, that is the kind of thing that matters in a fanfiction story.  Many many thanks ...  Best wishes Krystyna

Great job on this Civil War story. I wish the series had touched on the Civil War more often. The way you depicted Quantrill's raid was gutwrenching and a reminder of the chaos following modern terrorist attacks.

I really appreciate how you have very effectively used Frederick Kyle as a villain in your stories. I hadn't really paid much attention to him, and it's interesting to see how he might have turned out.

Author's Response:

Hi Zarapam,  I'm so glad you found this story, it's about the closest to Civil War action the two brothers get apart from Hoss in Man in the Middle.  I found Kyle an intriguing character in the episode, so many different 'shades' to him (which Adam seemed the only one ot sniff out) and so much potential for a story.   The events in that raid were authentic and also included the James brothers, when they were just teen agers. I had written a section which included them but when editing it slowed the action down.  Thank you again for all the encouragement you have given me with your reviews for my stories ...best wishes Krystyna

What a ride.  Didn't know all those details about Quantrill so that was interesting and I liked how you wove it into the story.

Author's Response:

Thank you very much, Betty.   The details about Quantrill's raid on this town were given me by a descendent of those who lived through this raid, part of her family history I guess.  I'm glad you enjoyed  the story, thank you so much for leaving reviews for it I really am grateful.   Krystyna

wonderful story,The cartwrights was one happy family and the boys always got along with each other

Author's Response:

Thank you, Pam.  I know there are some splendid stories of the boys going off to fight but I'm afraid I just couldn't believe it. I think they would die for the principle of family love than for anything else. Really pleased you enjoyed this one...Krystyna

The backdrop of The Civil War was perfect to bring out that bond between the brothers. A wonderful story. Well done.

Author's Response:

Thank you so much for reading and reviewing this story, nyspats ...sorry not to have replied much sooner but have had time in hospital and now recuperating. Thanks again, Krystyna

A story of the love between brothers and the determination they have to survive.

I can not imagine the pain and confusion a family must feel when opposite sides are taken, even briefly, and a resolution seems no where in sight.

Definately a story for history buffs.

Author's Response:

Thank you so much, Tracy, I really appreciated seeing a review for this story here and your imaginative comment gives one pause for thought... thank you very much.

An interesting story about the relationships the Cartwrights have with one another, particularly Joe and Adam. The Civil War plays a part in the background and although the character of Kyle is from is from "A House Divided," there is enough background information given that it is unnnecessary to have seen it to understand the story.

Any history buff should read this as it is historically accurate; they would enjoy it and if they are Joe girls, they will doubly enjoy it.

Author's Response:

Great review, Adamant, and one I really appreciated.  The one thing I missed from the story was that Jesse and Frank James rode in that raid, they were only teen agers at the time.  What a wild and crazy era they lived in ...   I really liked your comment about Frederic Kyle, thank you.
