Since there seems to be no way to edit a comment, make that 'looking' forward to spring.

There's always room for more comments anyway.  Thanks, LJN.  :)

I've always thought that Marie might very well have faced a 'long road to acceptance' in her role as a new step-mother.  As far as we know, she was a wonderful mom to Adam and Hoss, something that is easily borne out in your story.  It wouldn't have been easy to be Adam or Marie.

It was fun to imagine Adam as a bright, precocious eleven year old who was eager to learn and always do his best.  This fits Adam's character well in childhood, or later in life as the adult he eventually became.

It was also easy to feel the winter time cold that would have been a daily fact of life in those early pioneer days.  Getting trapped outside could certainly have been disastrous.

Thank you for the fun read.  (Loosing forward to spring now.)  :)

Author's Response:

Thanks, Sharry, for reading and reviewing. I've always thought about how Adam and Marie would be together, and realized that he wouldn't be very enthusiastic about having a mother after being so long without one.  Adam had a lesson to learn--the hard way--about acceptance.

A mother’s love will confront any danger. Good to see that Adam sees the love I. Her heart.

Set in a Nevada winter, "Long Road To Acceptance" follows young Adam through a difficult time. The characters are genuine, with Marie Cartwright's character playing a major part in the story.

The plot moves nicely and offers a look into the isolating conditions of winter in 1800s Nevada.

Thanks, littlejoenice, for taking part in the Winter story challenge.

Author's Response:

Thanks for reading and reviewing, Tracy. I'm very glad you liked it. I'd never really cast Marie's character in a main part before, so that was a bit new for me.

Great story of how Adam accepted Marie as "Ma". I really liked the part where she was doubting her ability as a mother of two much less a young one.

Author's Response:

Thanks, heyjude. I'd never tried my hand at stories without Little Joe, so this was a lot of fun for me. Marie's thoughts and doubts somehow came very easily for me. Very glad you liked it.
