Not an easy story to read and I'm sure not an easy one to write. You handled this difficult subject in a clear but layered way. It's interesting to think how the life (and death) of one person affects so many. Thanks for giving my emotions a workout, debpet. :)
A very powerful story
This is a well-written account of events that could have happened in many Bonanza episodes, but of course, never did. The description of the events and aftermath are brilliantly portrayed from several viewpoints. First the events are vividly told, straight-forwardly. Then the story shifts to Doc Martin's perceptions, then again from Roy Coffee's view.
The story continues with all the family's feelings that spring from great loss--anger, grief, and eventually poignant resolution.
While a death-themed story may not be everyone's cup of tea, if it is, A Single Shot is an excellent place to start.
Powerful and yet intimate too.
I like the different POV's. It works well and you have it structured nicely so it's not confusing. Each one of them have their own unique perspective.
You have a nice writing style. You write emotion very well...not sappy but very realistic.
Although the subject matter is very disturbing, you handle it with great dignity and respect.
Your portrayal of the Cartwrights is spot on.
The ending, and what was imparted from one generation to the next, is something we should all strive for and take to heart in our own lives.
This is a story that is deep, rich and daring.
Daring to go deep and explore the full range of emotions. Daring to explore despair and finding simple truths...just waiting to be discovered. Truths that would change their lives forever.
Well done, debpet!
Tahoe Lee,Your PM led me to check for your review here, and once again I very much appreciate how deeply you have responded ton the story. Thank you!
This is so sad. But I can see all of it happening. Your story is very realistic and your characters true to canon.
Pt29646, I very much appreciate your response, especially that you said you could see it all happening. That's what i'm always trying for. Thank you!
