Title: Part Four Reviewer: Tahoe Lee Signed

What an enormous undertaking.   I highly recommend this story.

This is rich, dense and so very loving.

Love the title.  Perfect!

I mention again, how well designed this story is.  The structure and pacing keep us intensely interested.  Not an easy task.  It would be so easy to veer off, but you never do. Kudos!

There were a lot of moving parts in this story and you bring them all together in the end.  Sweet!

Very well done!

Author's Response:

Thank you for your kind words and compliments!  I am humbled by your praise.  I write organically so I start out on page one and give my muse rein.  She takes me all KINDS of interesting directions.  Once again, thanks for your multiple reviews.  They and YOU are appreciated!

Title: Part Three Reviewer: Tahoe Lee Signed

What a harrowing situation.

I love the sheer determination of all of them.  So much love...sacrificial love.

Absolutely heartbreaking for Joe.  They are all being pushed to their limits.

Very good writing.

Really enjoyed this.

What will happen next?

Just when you think it couldn't get any worse.

Very good dialogue.  So true to character.

The pacing is so good.  We keep going deeper and deeper...layer by layer.

Hop Sing is amazing!

A bit of backstory, from all of them, is scattered throughout the story.  I like it because it gives more depth into their characters and what they're feeling.

A horrific ending to this chapter with the unknown looming.

Good stuff!

I love this story on so many levels.

You created a frightful scene in the stable.  The build-up and suspense were done very well.

I like how you've woven the character's thoughts, about the past, into the story.

The emotional turmoil the Cartwright family goes through is very real and true to character.  Not overdone.  Kudos.

This is a mystery as well and we don't know what will happen next.

But it sure will not be good.

I absolutely could see, and hear, every event in this story as clearly as if it were on the screen before me. I want to say thanks to the writer.

The adventure, the return to -- and more importantly from -- the sea! This is a terrifying and exhilarating story, and the absolute knowledge of how it has to end, because of the ages of the sons in the tale, is driven out of the forefront of the reader's mind as the story unfolds.

The language used -- and kudos for the Cantonese -- is perfect for the time and place; there's enough detail to paint in the scenes, and not so much that it overwhelms either the action or the characters, all of whom come to life so naturally.

Those are the positives. The single negative is that I honestly have trouble believing even six months is long enough for Joseph to recover from such abuse.

Most respectfully,

RedShirt

Author's Response:

Thank you so much for your review, kind words, and compliments.  May I say I an overwhelmed!  As to your negative, Joe has not quite recovered as you will find out in the follow-up tale, Keep Your Eyes on the Sun.  He is a resilient kid and has a family extra-ordinary, but there are still repurcushions from his time with Bosh that come to the surface as a new crisis looms.

Wow. I don't often read these long stories, but there were some phenomenal things about this one. Numer one on the list is your characterization of the Cartwrights. You nailed each and every one of them. I also loved the way the meaning of the title was woven into the story. The plot twists were unexpected and I found it very moving. Thank you for what must have been a huge amount of work on this story!

Author's Response:

Thank you for taking time to read and review 'Blood and Bread'.  I write organically, so the stories take as many words to write as they take - and this was a long and complicated one!  I know some readers never take on the big stories, so I do appreciate the fact that you did!  Your highest compliment is '...Cartwrights.  You nailed each and every one of them.'  That is what I strive for.  I want to write a new episode for the readers to enjoy.  Thanks again!
