Charming. Unique. Hilarious. You have a way of nailing a turn of phrase.  The  snow "falling hard as a preacher on the wrong side of a saloon door"? Brilliant.

And oddly enough, after all those smiles, I feel like crying.

Those troublesome boys love each other so much. Hoss really is the glue that holds the other two together. The end is so lovely and bittersweet.

Thank you for a wonderful story!

Thank you for your kind words and compliments on my writing, and for taking the time to leave a comment.  I'm glad you enjoyed this curious little tale.  It took on a life of its own and, to be honest, I was as surprised by the ending as anyone!

What a sweet story!  I love the line about Hoss, "The big guy was the glue that held the three of them together."  So true.

You have such a gift for developing characters. Green Cloak and her sisters and "K-necked" were entertaining, and the strong ties between Adam, Hoss, and Joe were so clearly shown. The last conversation between Hoss and Green Cloak is touching, but the story ends on a happy note.

Author's Response:

Thank you for your compliment on my writing.  Green cloak and her sisters came out of nowhere and transformed the tale in many ways.  Thank you for reading!
