Title: Chapter 3 Reviewer: Sharry Signed

It would certainly have been interesting to see the Cartwright brothers inherit a sister.  The three of them would have made someone a trio of wonderful brothers.  Mariette would have been a lucky little girl as a result of Ben and Marie's generosity.

It makes extreme sense that Adam was able to locate and connect with Mariette.  He knew only too well how much it hurts to lose a parent.  It was easy to feel that special kind of love and acceptance at end of  in your story. that comes from a family.  It sounds like Mariette was ultimately able to find peace with the Cartwright family.

And Joe would have been a two year old too cute for words.   :)

This story made me smile, and cry, and smile again.

I could hear the anger, and the anguish, in Ben's voice when he came home to find Marie injured; I could see the worry in Marie's eyes as she watched Mariette make her way through a terrifying, frustrating time. I wished I'd had a set of McGuffey's handy, because that lesson feels like awfully heavy material for the 2nd Reader. Perhaps one-room school houses benefited from the cross-pollination of different ages and maturity levels among their students more than modern schools; I don't think a second-grade, or even a fifth-grade, reader would have so straightforward a treatment of death nowadays.

I thought the writing style suited the subject matter extremely well -- it's clean and sweet, and the story moves quickly.

If there is a trap for the reader, that's it: the story moves very fast over an emotional incident that might be, without hyperbole, considered the defining episode of Mariette's life. The message of faith in the ending adds a charm to the whole that's reassuring, and paints a very inclusive and welcoming scene for the reader to take away from the story; but I wonder if maybe this transformation, in real life or reel life, might have spanned more time before reaching completion.

I kept looking for a connection between this little girl and her friend Hoss, since they've been playmates and visited between the ranches and shared cookies at church; I understand the logic, and the logistics, that make it more likely Adam will be the rescuer.  More weight for those shoulders -- but he seems to have a driving sense of responsibility at the core of his character, and I think little Mari turned out to be a very lucky child indeed to find herself at home among the Cartwrights.

This is such a sweet and charming story of how Marriette came to live with the Cartwrights. She seemed to have a special connection to Adam in Badge Without Honor so it makes sense that he would be the brother to find her and help her. I like how you had her be shy and scared even though she was familiar with The Cartwright family. She had a big shock and her world is upside down. She had adjustments to make and even though everyone is kind to her she does miss her own family. The 3 chapters were just right in size and maybe someday you'll add more adventures.

What a sweet story.  I enjoyed it very much!  I had always wondered how it was that the Cartwrights were like brothers to Mariette.

Oh to live as a Cartwright!! Loved the way the story came around,pt! I am sure the C's did their share of spoiling that little young lady. I can see already no one is going to mess with Mari as long as Adam is around! Beautiful story, pt! Thanks for sharing!!

I could understand being upset with losing your parents but dont be cruel to the people that are trying to help you. I am sure it is hard for Marietta but at least give the C's a chance :yes

That is a sad situation. I can see Adam wanting to take over if it were the C's in that situation. Anxious to see how this turns out.

It is nice to get more to the story of how Mariette became part of the Cartwright family. I would imagine Marie would have enjoyed having a girl about the place.

Love how Adam was the one to find her and be a big brother to her; I imagine him as such a caring youngster

Little Joe forever

What a charming story about Mariette (whose name means "little Marie") and how she came to be considered a sister to the Ceatwright boys. It also is a positive representation of Marie and it's a good look at the young Cartwright family.

It's easy to understand how a grieving child would resist being taken into the fold by Ben and Marie but through patience and understanding--not just from the adults--Marriette is won over.

Thanks for sharing.
