Fans were alternately devastated and relieved when Laura Dayton left Adam for Will. Here I'll share my vision of the event, starting with the fall from the house, what happened between the scenes we saw, and continuing on to how Adam finally gets full use of his legs again -- and his heart.

This story is primarily a WHIB-WHN for "My Brother's Keeper," but it also includes references to events mentioned in "Marie, My Love," "Yonder Man," and the Ponderosa episode "Secrets and Lies" (I ONLY use Ponderosa as canon when it does not contradict the original series at all, which isn't often). As events unfold subsequent to their being exonerated of robbery and murder charges, it becomes apparent to Adam that more was at stake in Alkalai than the Cartwrights knew.

What happens when a Cartwright loves a girl who, in turn, favors his brother? And what does Regina from 'The Hopefuls' have to do with Melinda Banning from ‘The Lady From Baltimore’? When Joe fell for Melinda Banning, she, in turn, had her eye on Adam. Things were brought to a head when Joe found Melinda and Adam together in a rather compromising tableau. To head off the unavoidable clash between the two brothers, Ben quickly found some other place for Adam to be while the Bannings were still around. But what happened when Adam came home after the episode’s ending? This story, narrated by Hop Sing, tells us how Joe and Adam came to terms with the events of that episode—and how Regina from the episode ‘The Hopefuls’ tied into it all. (Titled 'A Family Affair' on other sites, but I felt the title should reflect more of Hop Sing's part in the story, thus the change.)

Anyone who has watched the episode 'Once A Doctor' leaves the story with one burning question - where was Little Joe when Hoss was thought to be dying and, ultimately, operated on? This WHN is my answer to that question.
Adam, Hoss, and Joe fall prey to unnatural circumstances while on an overnight trip away from the Ponderosa. Unexpected danger ignites a host of painful memories for all three brothers when they are forced into a fight for survival with only each other to rely on.
A bit of a WHN in that the story is an attempt to address some of the emotional fallout that would have been unavoidable following the circumstances unleashed in the original episode My Brother's Keeper.

A WHN for The Hayburner. Hoss tells what Adam did to him after finding out about him winning money on Joe's horse.
This is my contribution to the pool of what might have happened next after The Crucible. Adam is wrestling with emotional fallout from his life-changing experience at the hands of Peter Kane. He is not prepared for something worse to happen until it does.
