Introducing myself, Starbeek

Hi all,

I live in Europe, in the south of the Netherlands (Holland), naar the German border. I remember that we got our first television. There was not much to see on the Dutch television then, so we looked a lot of German television for years. Next to my Limburg dialect and my Dutch language, through German television I soon learned to speak and write German as well. There, on German television, I grew up with Bonanza. But in Germany the original language (of actors) was replaced by the german language (dubbing). So I never heard the real voices of the Bonanza actors for years. They all spoke in soft and sweet German. In later life I started to see reruns of Bonanza and was so surprised how the real voices of the actors in English sounded. And what effect that had for the storylines. What a positive difference that was.

Not only did I love the tv show, but my love for America grew more and more. So I visited the USA in later life a couple of times, backpacked for weeks, even months on time and made dreams come true.
Now I am older, living peacefully with my Weimaraner either in my house in Holland or in my mobile home in a nature park in Belgium. I move gently to be at ease with the mystery of what life is all about.
And now I am here, with you, Bonanza Boomers.

:laughing That's true, the German voices are very different and the translation isn't always correct. (I'm German)

Hi @Starbeek, great to have you. It must be so strange hearing dubbed voices and not the actors' voices in a show that you love, I can't imagine it! :welcome

I agree about the dubbed voices, watching it in Japanese is a hoot :ha
