Jack Albertson was born Harold Bernard Albertson in 1907. He started his acting career onstage, doing vaudeville and burlesque shows. He was also on Broadway. In 1940, he first appeared onscreen in Strike Up the Band. Jack went on to be an incredibly successful TV and movie actor. He is one of only a few people to win what is called the "Triple Crown" of acting: an Oscar, a Tony, and an Emmy. He also received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Jack was in Miracle on 34th Street, Son of Flubber, The Subject was Roses, and Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (in which he played Grandpa Joe); he did the voice acting for Amos Slade in The Fox and the Hound. He was in almost every Western you can think of. One of his most well-known TV roles was that of Ed Brown in Chico and the Man. I recognized him just the other day with Tim Matheson in a 1971 TV movie called Lock, Stock, and Barrel.
Jack married June Wallace Thomson in 1952, and they had a daughter, Maura Dhu. They lived in Los Angeles. Jack passed away from colon cancer in 1982.
