John Abbott was born in London in 1905. As a young man, he was interested in art, but then decided to go into theatre. He became a well-known actor of Shakespeare, appearing alongside notable actors such as Laurence Olivier. In 1937, he appeared on TV for the first time. After World War II (in which he worked as a decoder), he was offered a Hollywood role in the U.S. He decided to take it and moved to the United States. John was a talented character actor and was often cast as a villain. He appeared in movies such as Mrs. Miniver, Jane Eyre, A Thousand and One Nights, The Merry Widow, and Gigi. He was also in many TV episodes. John retired from acting in 1967 and started doing art again. He passed away from cancer in 1996.
