A Hop Sing Question

How old do you think Hop Sing was suppose to be on the show? Do you think he went to work for the Cartwrights after Marie died, or had he been with the family longer than that?
Perhaps when Joe was a baby, or even before Ben married Marie, when it was just Ben, Adam, and Hoss. He might have started working for them when he was kind of young, because he just didn't look that old.
Did any episode mention when he came to work for the Cartwrights, or how old he was?
