She was raised in accordance with the principles espoused by her behavioral psychologist grandfather, John B. Watson, who believed that children should never be held or cuddled. She says that the lack of warmth at home is what drove her to the theatre.

In 1969, she guest starred as Zarabeth in Star Trek’s All Our Yesterdays. Although Gene Roddenberry fought with the sensors, he was unable to show Mariette’s navel in this episode. For those who have not seen this episode, Zarabeth falls in love with Spock - and he with her.
1970's Is There Any Man Here? is a Bonanza episode that puts Mariette's character, Jennifer, in Ben's arms!
She turns out to be quite a fickle woman - one out for her own version of happiness - and we should have known it from the way she entered the house and immediately compared herself to Ben's wives!
