Meaning of Hoss' name

Post by idmarryhoss »

I was writing fanfic and wanted to scan the ethymology of names.

Then, I realised, I'd love to know more about Eric, Hoss, in Swedish litteration it is Erik.

Here is what Erik means in Scandinavia:
(from http://svenskanamn.alltforforaldrar.se/visa/Erik,
referate done by me)

"Erik" is a Nordic man's name with Germanic or ancient Nordic origin. Originally it is spelled "Airikir", which begins with a part "the lonely" or "forever", and ends with a part that means "ruler, king" or "big, strong/powerful". It's first detected in runes from 11th century, and since then, Erik has been a frequent name of men and kings in Sweden.

Erik the Holy was a famous king, who was murdered 18th May 1160, and since then, Erik's day has been a holiday. Erik is the most common Swedish man's name (in Sweden, that is), and it has been such throughout all times.
