Wow! What a powerful episode. Ben nearly breaking down crying. I have to see this one again. Real soon. I was doing housework and junk during commercials and missed a bit of it. Jeepers, Lorne Greene was exceptional in this episode. Well, when isn't he exceptional? Dan Blocker gave his usual stellar performance as well.
Is that all you can think about at a time like this, cake???

Touch nothing!

Do I detect a Trixie Belden fan, perhaps? :grin

I thought the ending was a bit too pat, but aside from that I thought this episode was good -- and most of the acting excellent. Although I had too laugh when Pa tells Hoss that the kid tried to shoot him again, and all Hoss says is, "That little varmit!" Usually I'm fine with Hoss' mild language (seems to me he piles on minced oaths instead of making blunter choices, which works), but that one was a little short of the necessary, IMHO.

Also, I was impressed by the commentary. Although the actor does sometimes get distracted in analyzing his own performance, heh. He wanted to fling the plate of food Hoss brings him against the wall, but they wouldn't let him because it would have made too much of a mess. Sadness.
