It never ceases to amaze me how despite years of experience Ben displays naivete and poor judgement of character of people who just waltz into his life. Not only did the attorney in town know nothing about the background of"Trumbull " (even had he been the real one), but Ben accepts him as a hand with nothing but a meaningless referral. And to top it off, he allows "Trumbull" to be alone with Jamie as a total stranger for several days at the ranch. And at the end Ben displays no regrets at all, "maybe I should inquire about someone more thoroughly before hiring them"....

I LOVED watching Hop Sing defending Jamie and Neta! He whacked BadGuy with the frying pan ... GO HOP SING! (Unfortunately, he only slowed the guy down - long enough for Jamie and Neta to hide themselves).

Yes and Bradford Dillman made the quintessential bad guy - he actually prided himself doing such roles, apparently!

I love that Hop Sing had many better roles in the later episodes. He was shown more as a person. Both Jewel Blanch and Mitch Vogel played their roles well.

Seeing Sen Young on other shows speaking English with no accent makes one appreciate his talent on Bonanza of consistently speaking with a Chinese accent.....

I just saw this episode (recorded it from MeTV). The role of the teacher was small, but she turned the father around, so he realized his daughter was afraid of him and he needed to convince her not to be.

I looked up the actors who played the father (Donald Moffat) and Bannon/Trumble (Bradford Dillman). They are both still alive and almost exactly the same age. I remember Moffat most from his role as LBJ in "The Right Stuff" and the President in "Clear and Present Danger"; he also played the judge in the Bonanza season 11 episode "The Trouble With Amy". And it seems like Dillman was in just about every 60s and 70s TV series.

I have mixed feelings about these later seasons with the addition of Jamie. I don't find him particularly endearing, and often he's flat-out annoying. Many of the stories are strong like this one was but I still feel a bit disconnected from the characters. I don't know. I'm just not as emotionally invested in this show like I was during the earlier seasons. I feel anxious for BZ to finally end so that reruns from seasons 1-6 can begin again.

I really enjoyed this episode. Jamie is such a great addition to the Cartwright family and I always enjoy watching his story lines. I do have to question how strict the father must be with his daughter that she was afraid to tell him what she saw which really would have shortened the episode I guess. They did touch on this a little later with the knowledge of his other daughter running away and getting married. I liked the earlier comments how Ben just left a stranger to look after his ranch and Jamie, the idea is truly crazy to me
