I've never seen this episode but ML did an amazing job and since he was a lefty, he did a remarkable job working with his right hand. Nobody does a better job at acting hurt and in pain than ML. He was so convincing, his hurt made me hurt.

Michael did such an incredible job of being in pain I could barely watch it when it first made it's debut and years later I can still barely look. When the horse stomped on his hand [ thankfully, not really] he screamed. It was so realistic it was removed. I hope when season 11 is finally released it's back in there.

Regarding "the scream", specifically regarding the Season 11 US DVD release: Andy Klyde explained why it isn't on the new release. The "digitally restored" video is taken from original 35mm film. BUT the audio is taken from the soundtrack from the version earlier restored in 1988-89, which was cheaper than getting the sound from the 35mm film, and no difference in sound quality.

Republic Entertainment and Pat Robertson/CBN paid for the 1988 restoration, and CBN (Christian Broadcasting Network) didn't like the scream, so it's not in that version, so it's not in the new version (or probably any versions from the 1988-89 restoration).

Yes, seems like it's gone forever. It probably went a bit like this, though: "AAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!"

Powerful episode. ML as always is wonderful and once again brought tears to my eyes. Ben starts to get a little weepy at the end as he considers he nearly lost Little Joe again.
