My favorite thing in this episode is how excited Joe gets about the rabbits being Gerby Royals (when the watchers all know Barlow just made up that name). He keeps referring to them as "the Gerbies"...
What, are you practicing to be a burglar, bettin' that kind of money on a two-card draw?Joe, "Queen High"

Joe: "Look at the size of that thing! What are you raising, a mountain lion or a rabbit?"

Between Ponderosa Explosion--which first aired New Year's Day 1967--and the previous episode, the warm and sentimental A Christmas Story, which aired on Christmas 1966, it makes sense that these sweet-in-tone episodes would air on those dates, with the Cartwrights in the holiday spirit, just as the nation itself would have been.

It would be interesting to go and check each Christmas and New Year's Day episode for each year Bonanza aired to see which episodes debuted on or, as it would have happened most years, near Christmas and New Year's Day.

 14 427 First Love 26-Dec-72
"Hoss and the Leprechauns" surprised me, as it seems it's usually shown now around Saint Patrick's Day in March.
