Now I would think that by season 8 Little Joe wouldn't get hoodwinked into making a $5000 bet on a horse race and then Ben gets caught! This episode seems to better fit in an earlier season. :joe

What's strange about this episode is the little dog, Hazel. My husband-to be and I, in the early 70's, adopted a dog that looked just like this and was also named Hazel! I do like the episode but strange that they put coloring on the horse to try to hide it. Julie found out that if Joe won the race he would be shot and was trying to warn him. I love the end when Hoss gives Hazel to Julie.

Yes it was so rare so see dogs on the Ponderosa, especially a little fluffy one. I also liked the fact that Hoss gave Julie the dog.

I love the scene in this episode where Joe is trying to explain to Ben about the $5000 bet. Especially when Hoss chimes in saying he can help cover the bet because he has $180! :laughing

The episode gets incredibly suspenseful near the end! I was holding my breath, afraid that Joe was going to get shot (yet again :grin). The villain, Geller, does a great job with his role.
What, are you practicing to be a burglar, bettin' that kind of money on a two-card draw?Joe, "Queen High"

Yes, $5000 should outvalue the boys' pocket money by a negligible amount. :laughing This scene was great as was Joe's expression behind the beer glass when he heard Geller's stake. Ooops. :lol
I also enjoyed the suspense of the last scenes (Goodness, Ben, do something!) but I couldn't help noticing that the white horse was held back deliberately by its rider so Joe could first keep up and then race away. (I know I'm always to critical of the riding scenes. :shrug )
