This episode doesn't have a very exciting plot (other than Joe stopping the runaway horses), but it's one of my favorite Joe romances...he's absolutely adorable, all the way through. I love how he keeps introducing himself to Wendy over and over, and I love the way Hoss keeps teasing him about her. I do think Wendy is a bit young for him, but I could imagine her growing up a bit over the next few years and then meeting him again. (Fanfic opportunity?) Also, she doesn't seem to be affected by the curse of the blue dress!

I have to agree with you, CG@H, on the plot not being very exciting. Why, when I watched the episode, I even thought to myself, "My goodness this is boring!!" But I didn't think Wendy was a good love interest for Joe, as I did think she was too young. She almost looked like she'd fit better as a younger sister than a love interest. Just my opinion, though.

I agree.......and she emotionally like a child also. She lived in this dreamworld. Don't think she would have made a suitable mate for Joe in many ways.

Joe was great in this but Wendy was just too immature. She did wear blue several times throughout the episode so no wonder she left, never to be seen again. :bluedress :horsebuggy

Two and a half years ago, I commented on this thread that this was one of my favorite Joe romances. After watching it again tonight, I would like to retract what I said! :laughing Wendy is incredibly young and immature, and I don't see what Joe sees in her. Because he's a protective guy and Wendy seems totally helpless, I understand him wanting to protect her; but after all his very grown-up romances up to Season 7, his falling for her just seems weird! I could see it more if it were Season 1.

I still stand on what I said two years ago. She needed to grow up. She was too immature. The romance was doomed for failure right at the beginning because she wore blue throughout the episode! What was she thinking? :no :bluedress

This episode reminds me a lot of Disney films, a lot of walking around with two beautiful people with nice music in the back ground. I don't think Wendy is immature, she is only 19 years old, I think she is just a lovely soft person. I really didn't see any time where she showed any immaturity. I did think Joe liked her for her looks, it was a predictable move on his part to want to protect her and claim her as his, even though she never acted like she needed rescuing. A nice episode but not one I would watch again.

I looked up the actress (Judi Rolin) and was surprised that she only has 5 screen credits.

Right after Bonanza, she played "Alice" in a TV movie "Alice Through the Looking Glass". I can definitely see her as Alice!

Totally agree with with the comments. Wendy should've stayed with Peter Pan, he never grew up either.
This episode was the inspiration for my Bonanza Ballad 13 challenge - 'Come Back When You Grow Up Girl'.
