"The Honor Of Cochise"
This is a family episode that shows the love that the Cartwrights have for each other. Here we see Ben as a worried father who is concerned about his sons - especially Adam.
The Cartwrights have set up camp on a trail somewhere. Meanwhile Indians are chasing a cavalry captain who has killed some of their people - including women and children. Unfortunately, the captain runs into the Cartwrights' camp. The Cartwrights find themselves surrounded by Indians. Adam runs out from the safety of the camp to go get water. He is shot. Joe turns and runs out after him. Joe carries Adam back to the safety of camp while they are being shot at and he's shooting back. Ben is covering for them with his rifle.
That night the Cartwrights discover they are low on water. Joe tells Ben since it's dark he can sneak out and get some water. Ben asks him if he wants to get shot too. The Indians can still see and hear him. Joe wants to know what they're going to do since Adam needs water. A couple of moments later Joe asks Ben if he's sure he can't take out the bullet. Ben says it's too deep. Joe tells Ben that if he doesn't try for the bullet Adam is going to die anyway.
During the course of the story Ben has a couple of meetings with Cochise. Cochise finally says they can get one canteen of water, and Ben can go to the nearest cavalry outpost to have the captain arrested. Joe goes and gets the water. When he returns the captain tries to grab the canteen, and Hoss pushes the captain away. Joe and Hoss immediately give Adam some of the water. Later Ben returns with some cavalry officers who arrest the captain and take him away. A cavalry doctor tends to Adam and says he can pull him through.
