Brave Eagle 1955 - 1956

Post by Tracy » Mon Dec 31, 2018 10:02 pm

"Brave Eagle" was a 26-episode half-hour western television series which
aired on CBS from September 28, 1955, to March 14, 1956.

The program was unconventional in that it reflected the Native American
viewpoint in the settlement of the American West, and it was the first
series to feature a Native American lead character – although the star
was of Norwegian descent.

Keith Larsen starred as Brave Eagle, a peaceful young Cheyenne chief.
Born in 1924, Larsen was married to actress Vera Miles
(Bonanza episodes "A Time To Die" and "Four Sisters From Boston") from 1960–1971.

Kim Winona starred as Morning Star, Brave Eagle's romantic interest.
A full blooded Sioux Indian, Kim spent her childhood on the
Rosebud reservation in South Dakota.

Young Anthony Numkena, a Hopi Indian then using the stage name Keena Nomkeena,
appeared as Keena, the adopted son of Brave Eagle.

Reflecting the Native American viewpoint in the settlement of the American West, the episodes center upon routine activities among the Cheyenne, clashes with other tribes, attempts to prevent war, encroachment from white settlers, racial prejudice, and a threat of smallpox.

At this time, there is but one episode of "Brave Eagle" available on YouTube.

I don't remember the show, as I was quite young. It sounds interesting. I usually watched what my parents watched, like Bonanza, Cheyenne and Sugarfoot. Vera Miles must have married Keith Larsen after divorcing Bob Miles.

Seeing that I was born not quite 2 weeks before I was born, I have no recollection of this show. I don’t even remember it repeated with th much older shows like Fury, Roy Rogers or The Lone Ranger on Saturday Adventure Theater in the early mornings. They didn’t give it much of a chance! How in the world did you find this show?

There are so many TV westerns! A little research is all it takes, but unfortunately, most can not be found on DVD, current TV stations, or even Youtube.

I'm working on information on several others, which will be posted ASAP.

Not even on a whole year. Kinda sad. I had never heard of it either.
We never really grow up; we just learn how to act in public--anonymous
