Leonard was born in 1931. His parents were Jewish immigrants from the Ukraine. Growing up in Massachusetts, Leonard began acting in theatre productions when he was only eight. He first appeared onscreen in 1951. In 1966, he took on what would become his most famous role, that of Spock in Star Trek: The Original Series. Besides playing Spock, however, he was busy with many other projects--acting in other shows and movies, writing (both scripts and poetry), directing, and stage acting. He was a man of many talents. In later years he appeared in a number of newer Star Trek projects and directed Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. In the early 2000s he did a lot of voice acting. His last onscreen appearance was in 2013 in Star Trek Into Darkness. Leonard passed away in 2015, at the age of 83.
