Cap by Missy Cartwright
Mildred was born in 1905. Her extensive acting career began in the 1920s, when she joined a group of actors called the Vagabonds in Baltimore, MD. In 1940 she began acting in films as well. She was in The Quiet Man, The Kissing Bandit, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, a TV version of Little Women, Arsenic and Old Lace, You Can't Take It With You, Trapper John, M.D., and Cheaper by the Dozen. When I looked at her IMDB credits, I was astonished to find how many movies I'd seen with her in them! She was usually cast in character roles (one of my favorites is that of the sorceress in The Court Jester with Danny Kaye). Although Mildred preferred the theatre to film, she continued appearing in movies until 1988. She died in 1994 at the age of 89.
