Anjanette Comer has kept her personal life, her love life, such a secret that nothing about it is revealed in any biographical information. She was married twice, or believed to have been married twice, once to a Robert Klane (09/76-10/83--divorced), and once to Walter Koenig (Chekhov on Star Trek) but the date of the marriage and the date of the divorce are unavailable. She apparently had no children as well.But it is known that Comer was born August 7, 1939, in Dawson, Texas. As a teenager in high school, Comer was involved in a multitude of activities including basketball, cheerleading and beauty contests. After high school, Comer attended Baylor University in Waco, Texas for a short time and then, at the age of 18, she left for California. She was going to attend either UCLA or the Pasadena Playhouse; she chose the Playhouse and studied there for two years before she began to act.
Her first appearance on television was in My Three Sons in 1962 where she was billed as Anji Comer, more than likely her nickname as a child and young girl. From there, she appeared on various television shows including the westerns, Gunsmoke and Bonanza.
In 1965, she was cast as a woman brought to an Antarctic research station (apparently playing a Maori girl) in Quick Before it Melts and then in the following year, appeared in a black comedy, The Loved One, as a mortician named Aimee Thanatogenos (which from what I can surmise, means one who is in love with death) who commits suicide by embalming herself. Comer tended to accept odd parts and played a social worker in an extremely odd and perverse movie (also starring Marianna Hill--”Ponderosa Matador“) entitled Baby. When she started accepting parts in made for television movies after she returned to acting after a hiatus (she claimed her love life interfered with her career), she seemed to only be offered "women in jeopardy" parts.
After Quick Before it Melts, she accepted the part of a manipulative Mexican peasant girl who becomes entangled with both Marlon Brando and John Saxon in The Appaloosa. At least she had attractive costars in the movie that did not do well in the theaters. She also played basically the same part--a poor Mexican peasant, in Guns for San Sebastain, which had a “ridiculous script.” She appeared in a few other movies, none to critical acclaim and then disappeared.
Comer reappeared on television in the 1991 two-part season opener of Jake and the Fatman. She then appeared on television in other minor roles and television movies. One of her best parts is said to be that of Beulah in the TV movie of Larry McMurtry’s Streets of Laredo.
The most recent movie in which Comer appeared is 2011’s Bird of the Air in which she has a supporting role. Now in her 70’s, she is still acting.
