Richard Jaeckel appeared twice on Bonanza: he was Mitch Devlin in "Between Heaven and Earth" and Dibbs in "Night of Reckoning."

Cap by me

Richard Jaeckel was born in 1926. After high school, he worked as a mailboy for 20th Century Fox and was discovered by an agent there. He began to act in movies and the occasional TV show, playing a lot of character roles. During World War II, he joined the Navy and served from 1944-1948, then returned to acting. He looked younger than he was (I never would have guessed he was 38 when he played Mitch Devlin!). He was known for playing characters that didn't survive the movie. Some of his more famous roles were in Sands of Iwo Jima (with John Wayne), The Dirty Dozen, and Sometimes a Great Notion (for which he was nominated for an Academy Award). He was also in three episodes of Little House on the Prairie. Richard died of cancer in 1997 at the age of 70.
