Percy Helton was a very well known character actor in the 1950s and 1960s. His trademark was his raspy/breathy voice. He guest starred in 4 "Bonanza" episodes:

Percy was born January 31, 1894 in Manhattan, New York City. From the age of 2 he appeared in his father's vaudeville act. While he was still a child a Broadway producer cast Percy in several plays over several years. He made his Broadway debut around the time of his 12th birthday.

Percy served in the U.S. Army during World War I, and was stationed in Europe with the American Expeditionary Forces. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for his service in the 305th Field Artillery.

After the war Percy continued performing in plays. In one of these he was required to scream and shout most of his lines. It permanently damaged his voice, and he became hoarse. This changed the direction of his career as he went into film and TV.

He appeared in many films such as "Miracle On 34th Street" (1947),"20,000 Leagues Under The Sea", "The Sons Of Katie Elder", "Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid", and more.
