By complete accident, I came upon this website as I searched for Lorne Greene and his place of birth. I spent hours reminiscing and just simply enjoying stories about my all time favorite t.v. show. I was 7 years old when I first saw the show in 1959. My dad loved Westerns and I adored my father. For hours I'd sit on the floor by his chair and listen to baseball games on the radio. In the early evening we would watch Bonanza. It didn't take long to fall in love with the qualities of these characters so well defined that they would forever be etched in my childhood memory.
Ben Cartwright, the firm but patiently loving dad, Adam, the handsome oldest son embodied every promise in Ben's heart of his legacy in this rugged land. Hoss, strong and gentle; with a heart as enormous as the Ponderosa they so loved. Loyal and decent and honest. Then there was little Joe. The energetic, fun loving, youngest... where Ben's hopes probably rested with great pride and longing for the heirs of his dreams. I often wondered what my father thought when he watched with me a television show that would survive him and most people. As for me, whenever I hear the theme song play, my father comes to mind and a warmth surrounds me, and my heart slows down enough for my mind to catch up and remember every second of that moment in time. My dad passed away in 1975, but he is never far from my heart and what we shared so long ago.
