I like this one. There is something about guest star Henry Darrow (as Amigo) that rings true in every role he plays.

Ben and Joe at odds in the beginning is great to watch. They truly see one another's points of view, and lessons are learned on both sides.

One interesting thing - the Ponderosa bedroom where Amigo stays has two ways out - on opposite sides of the bedroom! I don't think we see that in any other episode.

This is one of Pine's favorites! She's a huge fan of Henry Darrow.

I love the scene where Amigo is supposed to shoot Joe but shoots the bad guy [ Greg Walcott] instead. I love seeing tied up, hurt Joe!

I enjoyed the episode, Amigo. How can you go wrong with Henry Darrow and Greg Walcott?!

Let’s start off with the opening action scenes with a group of bandits terrorizing the locals. Once again, we have the honorable Cartwrights wanting to take the culprits to justice and have them tried by a jury and then we’re faced with the usual opposition of the townspeople wanting to capture and hang them. So, what’s new in Bonanza Land … nothing, eh? LOL!

What do you think about Captain John Fenner (Greg Walcott). Wasn’t he convincing as a crazed lunatic? Does this guy ever play normal? Don’t ya just love him?

Image

Did any of you happen to catch (first Amigo) while he was sitting on Adam’s blue chair? I was screaming into the TV for him to get up?

and then Greg Walcott goes and dies on that chair.

The ending scene with when Ben and Little Joe (who by the way seemed to grow up a lot since Adam left, LOL) was very touching. Joe saying, he would make sure Amigo’s son (how’d they know it was a boy? Did they have amnio back in the 1800s? LOL) Anyway, Joe telling Ben that he would make sure Amigo’s son would be taken care of and Ben chiming in saying “We’ll make sure”, was very touching.

It was begging for a future episode to show a teenage son of Amigo’s dropping by the Ponderosa. A missed opportunity by the writers if you ask me.

So, what did you all think of the episode?

Greg Walcott is almost unrecognizable as the villain. He can play many different roles and change personality with each one. One of my favorite episodes is season 12's Thornton's Account and Greg plays a much more likable person. I love when Amigo is supposed to shoot Joe but shoots Greg instead. This episode has tied up Joe! What's not to like! :wink

I sometimes wonder how the Cartwrights could continue living in their house with all that occurred in the Great Room. No wonder Joe nor Ben wanted to sit in that blue chair afterward!

I know it’s the Cartwright way to give people another chance, but I can see why helping a convict (even to use as a hostage) would be a tough one for Joe to swallow. I didn’t expect Amigo to help them the way he did...no wonder Joe had some sympathy.

It would be nice to know what happened to Consuelo and her future child, but I guess we should assume The Cartwrights got her settled somewhere!

Imagine someone coming along and burning your hard work and livelihood to the ground. A really good episode.

I found Joe's attitude to be quite out of character for him in the beginning. I get that he was upset over the things that had been happening to their friends and all, but to want to hang him on the spot? Or worse yet, throw him to the lynch mob? That didn't sound like Joe at all!

Gregory Walcott I recognized instantly, and was surprised-- literally surprised at how brutal his role had become. I'd seen him both in Death at Dawn and Song in the Dark (the latter of which I liked a lot better). But his role here was really terrifying! Ben tried his best to do what was right, but you can see how real his concern and fear is in his eyes when Joe is tossed into the room, tied and beaten. By the tone of his voice, I could tell that Ben wanted to lash out at them for what they'd done to his youngest son, but knew that by doing so, it would only make it worse.
Wait a minute, wait a minute. What you're saying is that at your age, you don't know the difference between a girl and a horse?

Ben to Little Joe in "Day of the Dragon."
