I didn't see that in this episode.

Joe was teaching Annie how to shoot a gun but she kept closing her eyes while shooting! It was a cute scene.
That scene is not in my episode and it's the uncut official USA release. That's odd and it's also odd that Joe is teaching Annie how to shoot a gun. Are you sure it's this episode?

Has anybody else seen this scene?

Hmm. Maybe I'm remembering a different blond girl! There were quite a few. I wonder if it was The Mountain Girl. Sorry! :oops

Season 11's "The Witness". Similar situation: a naive blond girl with a rotten father is staying at the Ponderosa.

It's easy to do. Joe was involved with a lot of blonds over the years. :rotfl

The Debt is an apt title: the fans are owed a big one. The ep introduces the reconstituted Cartwright family. The line about "do you remember Kane" could substitute the name, Adam. No, cant say as we do. I assume the actors had no say-so in eradicating Adam.
The scene of fetching Joe's horse grabbed my attention too. Things are not the same.

They didn't really have to say anything regarding Adam being missing in the episode, certainly not so soon. I'm assuming they were thinking maybe PR would return so it was best to say nothing until they were sure. There were several episodes in the first 6 seasons where the character Adam was not in it, and they didn't need to say much about it. (regarding the future as to why they never mentioned him again, I'll assume by the time they realized he wasn't returning to Bonanza, it was too late.)

What I can't understand is why they didn't start off S7 with a great episode. They were all capable of having a great ep without PR and they should have started S7 with one of those.

Yes, they missed a great opportunity there to grab the viewership's attention. It would have been a good time to pull out something more gripping like the two-part episode about the Pony Express, etc. The could do really good stuff if all of the planets lined up, and everyone involved was in the mood. :grin

Quite interesting going through the seasons and seeing the Cartwrights go from hunting down trespassers near the border to welcoming anyone onto their land... .

Another thing I notice in a short season is how the youngest Cartwright has grown. He’s simply Joe, he’s developed a real love for reading and is a fairly good teacher to Annie. He also managed to teach Wiley self-discipline in regards to pulling a trigger. I suspect Adam (along with Pa and Hoss) would be proud. (And I am, too. Though, he still can’t get away with putting his shoes on the table!)

As an aside, it would’ve been better to provide some closure to what happened to Sheriff Roy. Clearly, we know he wasn’t dead since we continued seeing him in other episodes, but what was a first time viewer supposed to think seeing him motionless on the floor?!
