Episode 33 - SHOWDOWN

Date: September 10, 1960

Summary: A gang robs the Virginia City Bank then hides out near the Ponderosa until things quiet down. One of the gang members, Sam Kirby, hires on at the Ponderosa as a ranch hand so he can keep an eye on the movement of the posse and alert the rest of the gang if the cavalry gets called in. It proves to be a test of Sam’s loyalties though.

Episode 34 - THE MISSION

Date: September 17, 1960

Summary: Charlie Trent used to be a scout, but now he is little more than the town drunk. Hoss is looking after him a little one day when an Army unit passes through, in need of a scout to guide them as they transport a gold shipment through dangerous terrain. The captain hires Trent, who has to prove to the soldiers, to Hoss and to himself that he is up to the challenge. Lorne Greene, Pernell Roberts and Michael Landon do not appear in this episode.

Episode 35 - BADGE WITHOUT HONOR

Summary: Adam is rescued from an ambush by Gerald Eskith, a U.S. Marshall who is on business in Virginia City. Eskith is looking for Jason Blaine, a man who is married to a close friend of the Cartwrights, claiming that he needs to take him to California to be a trial witness.

Episode 36 - THE MILL

Date: October 1, 1960

Summary: The Cartwrights' neighbor Tom Edwards has lived as a paraplegic, ever since an accident involving Ben Cartwright and a gun. His ranch is going to waste. His wife Joyce is a longtime friend, so Ben decides to help the Edwards by making Tom a business proposition: the Cartwrights will build a grain mill on Edwards' land. In return, Ben only wants his investment back, plus fifteen percent. Tom agrees to the deal, but his hired hand Ezekiel starts making comments to him that causes tensions to rise and tempers to flare.

Episode 37 - THE HOPEFULS

Summary: While in Virginia City, Adam and a new friend, Sam Bord, come across a wagon train of Quakers bound for California. He and Bord offer to act as escorts for the wagon train and Adam finds himself falling for the daughter of the group’s leader. But when Bord turns against the group, Adam is forced to accept the differences between the Quakers’ beliefs and his own.

Episode 38 - DENVER MCKEE

Episode 39 - DAY OF RECKONING

Summary: Ben is ambushed on his own land and badly injured. He is rescued by Matsou and his wife Hatoya, and brought back to the Ponderosa. Grateful for what the two Indians have done for him, Ben gives them some land to farm and settle. But the odds are against their success as a new neighbor and Matsou’s brother are intent on making sure that they fail.
