Bonanza Boomers refers to the members of the vast generation who grew up watching the television series BONANZA, which aired initially on NBC from September 12, 1959 to January 16, 1973, and continues to be seen all over the world. However, everyone is welcome on this board, even if you only recently discovered the show!

BONANZA is set in the Nevada Territory in the 1860s, and revolves around the Cartwright family, owners of the 1,000 square mile ranch called the Ponderosa. Patriarch Ben Cartwright, widowed three times, has a son from each wife ~ Adam, the eldest, Eric (who goes by Hoss), the middle son, and Little Joe, the youngest.

Adam is serious and intellectual, Hoss is strong and big-hearted and Joe is impulsive and quick-tempered. Together, the four Cartwrights run their ranch, mining and timber businesses while defending their land against those who want it for themselves. At the same time, they continually interact with the surrounding community, particularly the residents of the nearby boomtown, Virginia City.

BONANZA's emphasis on family themes distinguished it from other westerns. It was also the first hour long television western to be filmed in color, often on location near Lake Tahoe in Nevada.
